(6 Dec 2016) LEAD IN: The Lebanese capital has been spruced-up and lit for Christmas, with decorations going up around Beirut over the weekend. STORY-LINE: It's the start of the festive season and across central Beirut people have been busy erecting, adorning and lighting trees and decorations. A tall Christmas tree in one of the major shopping centres attracted a crowd. Families gather around the tree and children have a chance to have their photographs taken with Santa Claus. Lebanon has been enjoying a period of relative calm following a stretch turmoil due to the war in neighbouring Syria. A new head of state was elected in October following a more than a two-year vacuum in the country's top post. You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/m...

A yule log or bûche de Noël is a traditional dessert served near Christmas, especially in France and several other francophone countries and former French colonies. It can be considered a type of sweet roulade. The traditional bûche is made from a genoise or other sponge cake, generally baked in a large, shallow Swiss roll pan, frosted, rolled to form a cylinder, and frosted again on the outside. The most common combination is a basic yellow sponge cake, frosted and filled with chocolate buttercream; however, many variations on the traditional recipe exist, possibly including chocolate cakes, ganache and espresso or otherwise-flavored frostings and fillings.
